Hear Us Play Live

Mozart Piano Concerto No 20, K466. Prometheus Orchestra.
Conductor –
Edmond Fivet.
Soloist – John Paul Ekins.

Recorded live at The Apex Bury St Edmunds, 17 April 2016 by University of Suffolk BA (Hons) Music Production students.

The Orchestra was founded in 2008 in response to the wishes of a number of East Anglian musicians who were keen to perform more of the orchestral repertoire. With financial, musical and administrative support, Prometheus Orchestra was born. The name Prometheus was chosen because the orchestra had recently performed Beethoven’s Overture The Creatures of Prometheus.

The success of Prometheus Orchestra is due to a number of factors. It is able to draw on a pool of talented musicians of all ages based in Suffolk and East Anglia. It is a mark of their quality that a number of them have given concerto performances with the Orchestra.

The Orchestra has had strong and continuing support from its Friends, who have recognized the importance of being able to attend reasonably priced concerts with varied music, some familiar, some new, played in a stylish manner by locally-based professional musicians at accessible venues. Prometheus Orchestra was granted charitable status in 2012.

The Orchestra’s founding Patron, Sir Charles Mackerras, offered a great deal of experienced advice until his death in 2010. Sir Charles was particularly helpful on repertoire choice and also advised on how historically informed performance techniques could be applied to an orchestra playing on modern instruments. Our current Patron is Sir Roger Norrington. We are delighted that one of the founders of the Orchestra, Pam Munks, has accepted an invitation to become a Vice Patron.
